Chapter 1
She now knew that her desire was not in question. She could feel the heat from his caresses still smoldering at a point deep in some unsuspected center of her body. She suspected only he could arouse this delicious sensation and ease her craving. And he’d made it very plain it was up to her. He was too honorable to break his word and force her.

spiesCertainty swept over her like the waters of a flood. He was unlike any man she’d known or even imagined. He was honorable, truly honorable, and his word inviolate. All the images of her childhood of disreputable scamps who charmed and then disappeared were just that, images. Josh was real, blood and bones and heartbeat real. How fortunate to be in bed with him, where surely she could seduce him into becoming the passionate lover she craved. Wanted from the moment she’d stepped from the draperies and trained her pistol on his exciting, masculine body.

If she desired him, she didn’t have much time. Tomorrow they’d be nearing Brussels. He’d be immersed in his obligation to get his warning to Wellington. Just as he should be. Tonight she could be sure of privacy. All her doubts melted away, as she set out to seduce him.

She rolled over on her back and stuffed her hands in her mouth to stifle her laughter.

Wolf grinned down at her. “You wicked girl! As my countess you’d better get used to such boot-licking. It goes with the title, I’m afraid.” He sat down on the bed beside her, grabbing her in his arms and attempting to stifle her laughter against his chest. Still laughing, she buried her face in his shirt.

Her laughter stopped.

As she looked up at him, her eyes large and startled, he felt all emotion leave him except flaring desire. The feel of her in his arms, where he’d longed to have her all day, destroyed his resolve. He groaned and captured her lips, kissing her with a passion that made her cling to him and return his kiss with a fervor surprising them both.

His ardor whipped away any feeling of Sara’s but that of the heat threatening to devour her on the spot. She melted into his embrace, his large body surrounding her like a radiating furnace. He’d never kissed her with quite this searing depth of feeling. She opened her lips to his tongue, loving the wild sensation as he tasted every bit of her mouth. She’d never envisioned such a fierce kiss, but she swept her tongue into his mouth in return, greedily taking and accepting his passion. He captured her tongue and sucked on it, increasing the waves of desire now roiling through her enthusiastic body.

Wolf rolled her over and under him, pushing down the neckline of her dress and reaching in to caress her breasts. His fingers molded one breast, and then settled on the tip, circling and pebbling the already erect peak. She gasped and strained against him, unconsciously raising her hips to bring him closer. Wolf brought both hands to her back and started unbuttoning her dress as she moaned encouragement. Her moan alerted him. He stopped, rolled off her, and lay panting beside her.

“I apologize, Sara. That was Wolf, not Josh. I’ll keep him from you from now on.” His breath was erratic, and his voice husky. He threw his arm over his eyes and lay there for a moment, while Sara waited for her own breathing to slow.

She felt too mortified to speak. She’d invited his caresses, and plainly shown her pleasure, so why had he stopped? Didn’t he desire her enough to make her his wife?

Her brain, submerged in sensation, finally began to function. Why was she reacting in this nonsensical manner? Her humiliation was stupidly wrong. Josh had told her before, and plainly, that however much he craved her, she must crave him. He’d wait until she showed not only her willingness, but her desire.

She might be a neophyte in the matter of love, but she knew exactly what to do. She would do to him what so pleasured her. Josh still lay on his back, and she reached over and unbuttoning his shirt, slid her hand inside, walking her fingers through the crisp dark hairs she admired. She found a nipple and began to caress it as he had hers, circling it with her fingers as it instantly hardened.

He shot up, sitting and glaring at her.

“Sara, you idiotic minx! Do you have any idea what you are doing? I am not a stone statue, you know.”

His voice was so indignant she laughed. “I sincerely hope you are not, my lord Josh,” she said in as low and alluring a voice as she could summon. “I am trying to seduce you, in case you’re too dense to understand.”

She leaned over and slowly kissed his nipple, laving it with her tongue. He almost came off the bed.

“You wanted me to come to you, milord. With desire. Does this show enough desire to qualify?”

With a low groan, he clutched her to him, kissing her face and hair with wild abandon. “I think it will do very well, my love,” he gasped. “But are you sure, Sara? Really and truly sure?”
